Giving Opportunities

Iowa District West: Connecting, resourcing and partnering with our congregations to extend God's Kingdom in the District and into all the world, the District's vision is "A Harvest of Joy." "For the LORD your God will bless you in all your harvest, and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete" (Deut. 16:15).

"Pass It On" - Re-changing neighborhoods
Dr. Arthur Porter, our cross-cultural missionary in Los Angeles, California, is working with 8 congregations all wanting to reclaim their changing neighborhoods for Christ. These congregations are older, mostly African-American Lutheran churches whose neighborhoods are changing…again…with Hispanics and southeast Asians moving in. They are revitalizing the Lutheran schools hoping to reopen at least three! You can help.

Deaf
Pastor Dennis Konkel and missionary Pat Monroe reach out the deaf in Iowa. They bring joy and salvation throughout the District to the hearing impaired. They are making new contacts and converts in Ames, Atlantic, Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Fort Dodge, Red Oak and many other locations in Iowa.

District Chaplaincy Program
Chaplain Steve Benson serves hospitals, nursing homes and retirement homes in Sioux City. Chaplain Jim Brammeier works in hospitals in Des Moines. Chaplain Benson leads a radio broadcast in Sioux City. “Lamplighter” volunteers, trained by the chaplains, help lead devotions and meet with residents at the homes. You can help right here!

Hispanic
Rev. Henry Witte and Pastor Dan Vogel proclaim the cross to the Spanish-speaking people in Iowa, beginning in the Souix City Denison, Storm Lake areas. They assist congregations in developing outreach programs to reach these new Iowans.

IOWAY
IOWAY (Individual Outreach With Adults and Youth) began as a project of the Mission Education Committee. IOWAY missionaries have gone on short-term mission trips to the Philippines, mainland China, Los Angeles, Germany, Pasadena. IOWAY is now a District mission project with mission trips for all ages. Your gifts to IOWAY will make a difference in the lives of the missionaries and the lives of those they touch.

Northwest Iowa Missions
The Districts newest rural partnership is with Pastor Scott Jensen. He serves Northwest Iowa congregations in Sheldon. As rural ministry becomes challenging, he needs your encouragement, prayers and financial support.

West Des Moines Missions
A new mission project in the Jordan Creek area of West Des Moines has started in 2008. Missionary Rev. John Burger is reaching the lost in this growing Des Moines suburb.
