Giving Opportunities

New England District: The members of the New England District are congregations and ministries located within Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Through the ministry of Word and Sacrament they strive to build up the body of Christ and to make disciples of all peoples.

Ablaze! Mission Celebration
The New England District is implementing its Ablaze! celebration by highlighting four separate missions. They are the Brazilian Ministry in Boston; the Evangelical Lutheran Church outreach in Kenya; Greater Boston Mission Coalition, and the Asian Indian Ministry. Your help in spreading the Gospel message of Jesus is needed now!

Adoption Services of LSSNE
The adoption services of Lutheran Social Services of New England (LSSNE) places children into families who will love and care for them and it helps birth parents deal with harsh economic and cultural situations. Your gift will help families who want to adopt, but can’t afford the entire cost and it will help purchase Educational Resources for staff, adoptive parents and children.

Antrim Girls Shelter, Antrim, NH
The New England District helps support Antrim Girls Shelter in Antrim New Hampshire, a project of Lutheran Social Services of Northern New England. Antrim Girls Shelter provides a safe haven for girls who have been referred by the juvenile court. While at Antrim, girls work to regain control of their behavior, to catch up with school, to gain insight into their destructive behavior patterns and to learn new positive ones. Your gift will help them!

Brazilian Mission
Pastor Augusto Riss of Brazil arrived at First Lutheran Church in Boston to minister to the growing number of Brazilians in Boston. He holds one weekly service in Boston and another in Plymouth, MA. In addition, he holds a monthly service in Hyannis, MA and two in Providence, RI. New work began in Weymouth, Somerville, and Framingham, MA. Your help is needed now!

Good News Garage
Good News Garage matches donated vehicles to people who have a job or a bona fide job offer. Good News Garage began in Vermont, but it now has offices in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire as well. Since its inception in 1996, it has matched more than 2000 families with vehicles to use in going to work or to job training. The program’s biggest need is donations of cash and cars.

Kenya Mission
The New England District has adopted The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya as its own mission. On a "First Lutheran Safari" members of the District will help refurbish a Kenyan dwelling for future mission work. A "Second" safari will come later. Your gift is needed to help purchase medical supplies for AIDS victims, educate seminarians in the local seminary in Kenya, purchase Bibles, hymnals and other devotional material, and provide for some local church expenses.

The Ruth House, Brockton, Massachusetts
The Ruth House is a residence for homeless moms, aged 16-22, and their young children. It is licensed for 10 families and 24 people. The purpose of Ruth House is to give these moms not just a house, but a home; not just learning, but life skills. The Ruth House is currently undergoing a Capital Campaign to renovate its older facility. Your donation can help upgrade child-safe outlets, modernize the kitchen, renovate the residents’ rooms and expand the playground.
