Hong Kong: In Hong Kong, 6.4 million people live on a land area of 380 square miles. That comes to 16,840 persons per square mile. About 15 percent of the people of Hong Kong identify themselves as Christians. Many claim no religion at all. More than half the population follow one of the many Chinese folk religions.

Asia Scheiwe Support
Rev. Joel and Iantha Scheiwe work in Asia, based out of Hong Kong. Joel is a strategic mission developer, engaging in local leadership training and connecting North American churches and volunteers with local Asian churches. Iantha is director of operations for Concordia Welfare and Education Foundation (CWEF), a Hong Kong-based non-profit organization that works to alleviate poverty through education and service. Your support helps them to reach many throughout Asia with the Gospel!



Birney Hong Kong Support
Megan Birney serves as a GEO missionary in Hong Kong. She facilitates conversational English-as-a-Foreign-Language (EFL) classes and Bible classes at the Lutheran Tsang Shing Siu Leun School, Holy Savior Lutheran Church, Concordia English Gospel Outreach Center, and Wan Chi English Center. Through these ministries, Megan is given the opportunity to spread the Gospel to many students and families.



Greater China Mehl Support
Rev. John and Susan Mehl serve God as His missionaries in Asia, where John is the regional director. John works with church and mission partners to establish priorities and develop a comprehensive strategy for global mission outreach in Asia. He also provides for the development and support of the mission teams and the individual missionaries throughout the region. Your gift helps the Mehls and the whole Asia team!



Greater China Region Administration and Property
Local support staff and project support are just part of the administration. Your gift helps provide for the administrative costs of all the projects that are vital pieces of the mission work. Part of keeping our missionaries fully supported, a key to reaching the Ablaze goal, is to provide work permits, space to work, telecommunication equipment, copiers, internet access, etc.



Greater China Region Asia Lutheran Educators Association
Your gift will help expand the Ablaze mission movement by bringing together all the Lutheran schools and their supporting partner churches in Asia. It will help increase evangelism effectiveness and Gospel sharing with tens of thousands of students and their families. These Lutheran schools already excel as educational institutions. Help them also excel as mission outposts.



Greater China Region Chinese Christian Literature for Asia
Your gift helps fill the huge need for Chinese Christian literature for poor pastors and evangelists in Hong Kong, Macau and other places in Asia. These materials for sermon and Bible study preparation include Bible commentaries, Bible handbooks, Bible dictionaries and concordances. Your gift also helps meet the tremendous need for Bibles, Gospel tracts, booklets and Bible storybooks for children, teen-agers, adults and senior citizens. Give a gift of God's Word.



Greater China Region CMT Christian Service Development
Your gift enables Marty Schmidt of the Hong Kong International School faculty to focus on Christian Service Development. Mr. Schmidt will lead servant groups into the Greater China region and around Asia--giving students and faculty an opportunity to learn about and be involved in mission work.



Greater China Region Halter Support
Deaconess Carol Lee Halter does humanitarian, evangelistic and educational work among the young, the elderly and the poor Chinese people who live in Hong Kong. Fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese, Carol nurtures and trains Chinese people to grow in Christ and to share the Gospel by holding educational and evangelism seminars and Bible classes, and by counseling individuals.



Greater China Region Hoeppner Support
Michelle Hoeppner serves as the functional facilitator for Human Care, as part of the Asia Management Team. In December 2005, she moved from Kunming, China, to Hong Kong, where she has been able to assume a more regional role with LCMS World Mission. Michelle is a full-time education and humanitarian aid worker engaged in social ministry in rural China, where she is the executive director of Concordia Welfare and Education Foundation—CWEF (formerly Society).



Greater China Region Hong Kong Scholarships for Seminary Students
Your gift supports The Lutheran Church--Hong Kong Synod students studying in the seminary. Some young people leave jobs and stable incomes to become evangelists and pastors. Your gift will encourage them in this process and, maybe, for many years to come.



Greater China Region Molitoris Support
Rev. Craig Molitoris serves as an assistant professor of theology, seconded to Concordia University, Irvine, Calif., and as a specialist for the Greater China region. Craig brings a mission perspective to the Concordia campus, helping to mentor, train and recruit Concordia students for mission service. He also creates opportunities for students and faculty to participate in mission outreach around the world, especially Chinese-speaking people.



Greater China Region Schmidt Support
Your gift will enable Allan and Sandy Schmidt to help organize support for The Asia Lutheran Education Association, help plan the association meetings, recruit teachers for schools in Asia, develop teaching and training approaches to integrating the faith into the daily school context, and inspire people to become engaged in this significant Gospel sharing strategy.



Greater China Region Strohschein Support
A missionary kid, Edward was born in the Philippines, but eventually returned to the United States. He received his bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind., and his master's degree in business administration from the University of Missouri in St. Louis. Shauna (Mengi) was born in Beijing, China. She holds a bachelor's degree in library sciences from Beijing Normal University.



Hong Kong Bolognini Support
Andrea Bolognini serves as a GEO missionary in Hong Kong, working at various locations: Lutheran Tsang Shing Siu Leun School, which has a Concordia English Gospel Outreach Center on site, Holy Savior Lutheran Church on the same campus, and Wan Chi English Center at a different location. Andrea teaches conversational English classes, Bible classes studies for high school students and women, works with a pastor and evangelist on outreach initiatives, and organizes activities for parents and children at the English centers and churches. Your support helps Andrea share the Gospel in word and deed with students, other teachers, and their families and friends.



Hong Kong Harlow Support
Sean Harlow serves as a relief worker in earthquake-affected areas of China. He builds relationships with local Chinese people to assist in the physical rebuilding efforts in the worst-affected areas of the country. Sean works in conjunction with Concordia Welfare and Education Foundation (CWEF), a non-profit organization that works towards poverty alleviation through education and service. Sean also organizes service opportunities for short-term groups who travel to China in order to assist with CWEF projects.



Hong Kong Kincaid Support
Megan Kincaid serves as a GEO missionary in Hong Kong and throughout Asia. Specifically, Megan supports the work of other LCMS World Mission missionaries as the Asia communication specialist. In this role, Megan finds ways to effectively communicate about what God is doing through missionaries and mission projects in Asia. She meets with missionaries, partner church bodies, and believers to gather information and record their stories in written and video form, so that it can be shared with churches and individuals in the United States and throughout Asia.



Hong Kong Lange Support
Josh Lange serves the Lord as a long-term missionary throughout Asia, but he is based in Hong Kong. He is the Asia region’s communications specialist, which includes finding ways to effectively communicate what God has done for all of us and what He is doing through missionaries and mission projects in Asia right now. Hong Kong Sawyer Support
Rev. Dr. Greg Sawyer serves as the pastor of outreach for Church of All Nations in Hong Kong by facilitating outreach in Asia. He develops and implements ways for Lutheran churches in Asia to be involved in more intentional outreach in the expat and local community. He also serves as a connection between North American churches and service opportunities in Asia, helping North American churches find places to serve in Asia.



Lierman Hong Kong Support
Lynette Lierman serves through LCMS World Mission as a GEO missionary in Hong Kong, at the Hong Kong English Center. In a society that thrives on communicating with their English-speaking business partners, learning English is essential. By providing native-speaking English teachers, the English Center is serving one of the central business focuses of the Chinese culture. Lynette speaks with business people and students in the community, and reaches out to them with the Good News of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for all people.
