Giving Opportunities

Papua New Guinea: Papua New Guinea occupies the eastern half of the rugged tropical island of New Guinea (which it shares with the Indonesian province of Papua, formerly known as Irian Jaya). Ninety-seven percent of the people claim some connection with Christianity, but the roots of animism are still evident in the culture.

Papua New Guinea Administration
Your gift here provides the ‘things’ of mission work...those mundane necessities of LCMS staff that enable them to be in position for ministry with tools ready to do the work. This includes the likes of banking fees, postage, telephones and back-up satellite phone for when the PNG communication system hiccoughs, leaving workers out of touch for weeks on end. Remember the last time your computer balked? We depend on ‘stuff’ to be in a position to be God’s hands in ministry.

Papua New Guinea Andrews Support
Paul Andrews serves as a GEO missionary in Papua New Guinea, where a main focus of his work is completing the Penale Airstrip. He assists in the on-site supervision of the construction the airstrip, which includes much hands-on work and earth-moving. This airstrip is important because it will open the door to the Penale people's participation in the broader world and make it possible for the church, education, and health services to have meaningful impact on the Penales' lives.

Papua New Guinea Aton Lutz Support
Anton Lutz serves the Lord and the LCMS as a volunteer community development worker in Papua New Guinea (PNG). He coordinates his work with the Gutnius Lutheran Church, in health and education development, including helping community youth deal with the growing AIDS crisis. Anton manages construction projects, including a hospital water supply renovation project. His parents also serve as PNG missionaries. Your gift helps him and helps these wonderful community projects.

Papua New Guinea Neuf Support
Elizabeth Neuf serves God as a long-term missionary in Papua New Guinea, Enga Province. She assists in youth outreach and also helps raise awareness of life-altering illnesses such as HIV/AIDS. Working with a local HIV awareness group, United to Be, Liz collaborates with various groups to help increase the services provided to victims of HIV. Your gift will help Liz reach out to those who have been isolated from their local and church communities with God's love.

Papua New Guinea Preparing for Growth and Outreach
Your gift will help prepare and train leaders in the Gutnius Lutheran Church (GLC) to reach out to lost people with the Gospel, encourage GLC Christians to give to the church for it's work and develop a healthy leadership mechanism in the church to support the Ablaze! movement in reaching out to lost people for Christ. This project is very important to the work in Papua New Guinea and will help reach out people in other countries like Irian Jaya, Indonesia.

Papua New Guinea Rural Transportation
Your gift provides a transportation lifeline for people in some of the most remote areas of Papua New Guinea. When these people become ill, they have minimal health care available locally. They may have access to an airstrip within several days’ walk of their home, but without money to purchase a ticket, they may as well stay at home. Your gift in partnership with Mission Aviation Fellowship will fly patients to a health center to receive lifesaving care.

Papua New Guinea Stephen and Julia Lutz Support
Dr. Stephen and Julia Lutz have served God in PNG since 1986. Steve is a medical missionary, serving as a general surgeon and treating a wide range of illnesses and injuries. He also promotes primary health care among people who live in remote areas of PNG. Steve and Julia are both children of missionaries and parents of a missionary. Your gift helps bring healing in the name of Christ and to bring those in need of healing to Christ.

Papua New Guinea Theological Education
Your gift will help train more pastors for the public ministry in the Gutnius Lutheran Church. The Bible Schools would train men to serve as evangelists in the church and would prepare them for new preaching stations. It would also prepare men for advanced training at Timothy Lutheran Seminary at Birib. National pastors serve as teachers in both the Bible Schools and Timothy Lutheran Seminary. Martin Luther Seminary in Lae is served by national teachers and also overseas staff.

Papua New Guinea Volunteers
Volunteers have great skills, experiences and zeal. Career and financial goals are not the focus as they serve. This does not lessen the mission they accomplish. LCMS volunteers gather their own financial support. You may choose to help one listed below, but as magnanimous as volunteers might be, they must still eat, drink and pay taxes. Your gift here provides for basic stipend and living costs so they can be in mission with those around them.
