Giving Opportunities

Gambia: The 4,127 square miles of land of the Republic of The Gambia runs 248 miles inland along the banks of the Gambia River in West Africa. It is the smallest country of Africa. In 2001, LCMS World Mission staff responded to a request for assistance by a group of 256 Christians, who found the LCMS through its Internet Web site.

Gambia Chapel Roofs
Chapel roof projects help congregations complete their chapels with durable and long lasting roofs. Your gift supplies the roofing materials, while the local congregation supplies materials for the walls and labor for construction. Your gift shows your concern for new younger congregations and helps spark a lot of excitement in new believers. More chapels will be built as The Lutheran Church of The Gambia reaches out to others, including many Muslims.

Gambia National Missionary
The Lutheran Church in The Gambia's first missionary, Rev. Samuel Essien, a national missionary of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria, arrived in October 2001. By May 2002, a church building had been constructed in Kitty. The new congregation baptized 102 and confirmed 68. The Lutheran Church of The Gambia now has eight preaching stations, with 25 lay leaders leading services in the local languages of Wolof, Majago and Kerio. Your gift will help keep Missionary Essien serving in the Gambia.

Gambia Training Materials/Sessions
Doctrinal materials and catechisms are needed to train church leaders and members in the Lutheran Church of The Gambia. As the Holy Spirit moves people to serve, the number of local men being trained to lead worship is growing. Incorporating lay leaders into the ministry quickly multiplies the missionaries' efforts among many scattered villages and urban settings. Your gift provides training materials funding training sessions, the best and fastest way to help new young church workers.
