Giving Opportunities

Guinea: LCMS World Mission first sent missionaries to Guinea to work with West African refugees who escaped civil war and persecution in Liberia and Sierra Leone. The mission continues its work among the largely unreached Maninka people group. Several missionaries are learning the language and culture of these Muslim people.

Guinea Carlos Support
Rev. Timothy and Beth Heiney serve God and you as missionaries to Guinea, West Africa. In 2003, the Heineys left the field for family reasons and Tim accepted a call to serve part-time as mission and outreach pastor at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Leawood, Kansas. He still serves part-time with LCMS World Mission and the Kansas District training Guinean church leaders. Your gift supports him in this important work.

Guinea Chapel Roofs
Chapel roof projects help congregations complete their chapels with durable and long lasting roofs. Your gift supplies the roofing materials, while the local congregation supplies materials for the walls and labor for construction. Your gift shows your concern for new younger congregations and helps spark a lot of excitement in new believers. More chapels are being built than funds are available to provide roofs. Some new starts receive tarpaulins for beginning places to gather.

Guinea Church Planting
Members of local churches work very hard at church planting. Leaders gather members into evangelism teams that go into new villages to sing and teach. Your gift will help with these activities. It will be used for items like lamps, video equipment, rain gear, transportation and food. Gifts are also used to support special workers or projects, such as a Kuranko-speaking refugee who works with that Muslim group.

Guinea Heiney Support
Rev. Timothy and Beth Heiney serve God and the you as missionaries to Guinea, West Africa.

Guinea Herman Support
Andrea Herman serves the Lord as a missionary to the Maninka people of Guinea, the second-largest ethnic group in the country. They practice Folk Islam, a combination of Islam and traditional animistic beliefs involving witchcraft. Andrea ministers to the unreached Maninka women, searching for potential leaders who, through Bible study and sharing of the Word, can one day take over and teach others. Your gift assists Andrea’s ministry to these people who live in the dark spiritual labyrinth of Guinea.

Guinea Leadership Training Materials & Projects
Your gift provides the backbone of LCMS work in Guinea. It helps train the men that serve the church. Of about 150 worshiping groups, most are only a few years old. Leaders gather each week at local market centers for training. Trainers gather once a month to learn what to teach at markets. Some leaders and trainers travel long distances. Your gift pays for travel and food, and subsidizes materials that would be much too expensive for the people themselves.

Guinea Medical Training
Your gift funds the medical teaching and training for the Guinea Lutheran church to be a witness of Jesus' love and compassion and to share the healing Gospel message. People are taught first aid, personal and community sanitation, cleanliness and Godly living. Children learn how disease is spread and visual aids and materials are used for teaching. Many children die each year of malaria, diarrhea, respiratory illnesses and malnutrition.

Guinea Norton Support
Tim and Heidi Norton serve as evangelistic missionaries to the Maninka, the second largest ethnic group in Guinea, with two million people. Many continue to practice traditional beliefs of spirit worship. Less than one percent identify themselves as Christian. Consequently, they are an unreached people group. Your gift supports them in leadership training, church planting, teaching literacy and making fascinating oral presentations of the Bible.

Guinea Pastoral Training
Your gift makes it possible to send two men to the seminary in Togo. They are finishing their last year there and, if God so wills, they will be the first national Guineans ordained into the Lutheran clergy. Your gift will also help send three men who have completed their first year and will be returning for their third year after completing their vicarages. With God's will, at least three more men will be accepted into the program to begin their first year of studies.

Guinea Theological Education Development
Theological Education by Extension (TEE) is a very important part of the work in Guinea. This work is very new and our training up to now has centered on subjects that many of us would consider more appropriate for Sunday school or Catechism class. Work is still needed for some at that level, but some men are beyond it and ready to move on. They need solid Lutheran theology. Your gift to the TEE program enables these men to move forward with their training.
