Giving Opportunities

Nigeria: The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod began work in Nigeria in 1936. Today, LCMS World Mission supports theological education programs and partners with the Lutheran Church of Nigeria to do mission work in The Gambia.

Nigeria Business Office
The Regional Business Office (RBO) has a multitude of functions. An LCMS missionary serves as the regional business manager. The office has three assistants and a secretary. There are presently about 15 LCMS World Mission missionary families in Africa that are serviced by the RBO. As with other administration giving opportunities, your gift here is "The one that gets it done!" Your gift here provides whatever is needed most and fastest.

Nigeria Erber Support
Rev. David and Joyce Erber serve in Nigeria, West Africa. They previously served through church planting and leadership training among the Bokyi people. They identified the "father-son" training process that enables Nigerian pastors and evangelists to use their gifts, abilities, life-experiences and locally available resources to train others to serve in the church. Since 2002, David teaches at Jonathan Ekong Memorial Lutheran Seminary in Obot Idim, Nigeria.

Nigeria Gospel Materials
Volunteers of various Christian agencies in America serve with volunteers in Africa and the recipients in Nigeria who benefit. The project involves getting Christian publications such as Bibles, hymnals, song books, Sunday school materials, tracts, etc. donated by congregations and individuals in North America and transported to Africa. Volunteers in Nigeria distribute the materials. Perhaps you can't donate materials or volunteer...how about a gift to help cover costs!

Nigeria Guest Housing
At one point in time, Nigeria had 60 LCMS missionary families. Now there are three. Many of the housing units are being handed over to the partner church, the Lutheran Church of Nigeria. Some housing units serve the mission for visiting staff or executives from St Louis, short-term volunteers, MOST Ministries, LYE-Cross Fire, guest lecturers, returning former missionaries, etc. Your gift maintains these remaining few, but vital “Guest House Units.”

Nigeria Professional Growth
Your gift provides workshops for pastors and evangelists of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria. It helps provide better training for LCN clergy. Funds may also be used to send a pastor or evangelist to a conference in Nigeria or another country. The president of the LCN is directly involved in deciding where these funds should be disbursed and how they are used. Your gift helps pastors and evangelists attend who would not otherwise due to lack of funding.

Nigeria Rasch Support
Ivan and Jennifer Rasch serve as missionaries in Nigeria, where Ivan serves as the communication network developer for the Africa region and teaches math and computer classes at a high school. The son of missionary parents, Ivan was born in Nigeria. Jennifer teaches music. Along with other responsibilities, they evangelize people in the local community and encourage local congregations. Your gift here supports the Rashes in their service there.

Nigeria Seminary
Jonathan Ekong Memorial Lutheran Seminary prepares students for the pastoral ministry and mission of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria (LCN). With 100,000 members in more than 400 congregations and a goal to reach one million or more unreached or uncommitted people in Nigeria with the Good News of Jesus Christ, the LCN needs these men and twice as many more! You can help right now.

Nigeria Support for Newly-Planted Churches
Through your gifts, mission stations have been opened in the villages of Obudu, Onitsha, Umuahia, Ibaka, Benin, Kaduna, Owerri and Akwanga, just to name a few. Funds are used sparingly so that the people in each village feel the church is indeed theirs and built by them. A little financial assistance mixed in at critical phases of the project, however, really encourages the people involved. Give some encouragement!

Nigeria Volunteers
Volunteers play an important role in spreading the Good News about Jesus. Their experiences are positive and beneficial to them and to the partner church, The Lutheran Church of Nigeria (LCN). Volunteers serve for two to 18 months. Some help the LCN with infrastructure-related issues. Some positions require high-end skills or special training. Volunteers with specific skills are called to Nigeria to do specific tasks. Your gift helps them get there and serve there.
