Giving Opportunities

Sierra Leone: LCMS World Mission works closely with congregations in the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sierra Leone. National leaders are being trained at a center in Sierra Leone near the Liberian border. An LCMS missionary couple works in the area on agricultural and humanitarian aid projects.

Sierra Leone Administration & Transportation
Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sierra Leone members are trying to rebuild their lives after a devastating civil war. The church receives no other subsidy other than support for office expenses, bank charges and bank transfer costs. Your gift provides this modest support and, with it, the caring hand of support to friends in Christ.

Sierra Leone Chapel Roofs
As displaced Lutherans return to their homes, your gift helps congregations rebuild by providing durable metal roofs for their chapels. Your gift will supply the roofing materials and the local congregation will supply materials for the walls and labor for construction of the walls and roof. Your gift shows your concern for brothers and sisters who suffered through years of war in their country and ask for our partnership in rebuilding their churches.

Sierra Leone Itinerant Missionaries
Your gift helps fund short-term travels of missionaries who help minister to members of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sierra Leone. These include ministering to members in refugee camps and in rural areas and a team involved in medical missions. This effort will lead to a broader united effort by many LCMS partners to bring a sustained and long-term effort to bear on the difficult medical situation members in Sierra Leone and Liberia face in their health care.

Sierra Leone Training Center
LCMS missionary Rev. Londenberg literally carved a training center out of the forest using a chainsaw and local labor in Eastern Liberia and now is doing the same in Jembe, Sierra Leone. Because of social and civil unrest in Ivory Coast, travel routes that the Sierra Leonians used to access the Liberian “Coordinating Center for Theological Studies” CCTS have been cut off. Your gift will help shift the training from Eastern Liberia to the new location in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone/Liberia Londenberg Support
Rev. David and Ernestine Londenberg accepted their current call to serve as missionaries in December 1997. David serves as coordinator of leadership development for Liberia and Sierra Leone. He ascertains needs, develops plans and strategy, coordinates personnel and helps equip congregational leadership. He also gives attention to the social needs of people returning to the area after seven years of war. David has established theological training centers in both Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone/Liberia Meyer Support
Delano and Linda Meyer serve as missionaries in Sierra Leone. Delano is an agricultural development consultant for the countries of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea in West Africa. He trains Lutherans to train their own people in effective agricultural and development practices, promoting better care of soil and livestock and encouraging stewardship of resources. The Meyers encourage and assist the local Lutheran churches as they minister to all the needs of the community.
