Giving Opportunities

LCMS World Relief and Human Care Projects: Current project opportunities needing funding are listed in this section. A portion of each gift is used for administrative costs. Any funds not used for the listed projects will be used for a similar project or for “where needed most” as determined by WR-HC.

1001 Orphans
Connecting orphans and disadvantaged children with Christian care is the goal of "1001 Orphans," a program coordinated by LCMS World Relief and Human Care, supported by Concordia Lutheran Ministries, and managed by LCMS church partners overseas. When gifts exceed the total needed for this opportunity the gifts received will be used as determined by LCMS World Relief and Human Care. Your gift is tax deductable to the extent permitted by law.

Asia Life Ministries
Two-thirds of malnourished children live in Southeast Asia. One in three child deaths occur in Asia. LCMS Life Ministries, part of LCMS World Relief and Human Care, established a proven life ministry model in Eastern Europe. Help LCMS Life Ministries share its model with the suffering in Southeast Asia. Your donations share Christ’s mercy by providing prenatal services, job training, economic counseling, pregnancy centers, and other services in one of the poorest areas of the world.

Chaplaincy in Paraguay Schools
Students are learning God’s Word at Santa Cruz School and Concordia High School in Hoenau, Paraguay, through the full-time ministry of a chaplain. Donations to LCMS World Relief and Human Care fund a large portion of the chaplaincy position.

Deaconess Support
Because of the strong historic and ongoing human care component in deaconess ministry, LCMS World Relief and Human Care works to enhance and promote opportunities for these trained women to serve God’s people in need, in the United States and worldwide. Any funds not needed for this project will be used for a similar project or as determined by LCMS WR-HC.

ELCE Health Services
People in three rural areas of Eritrea, Africa, now have access to health care thanks to clinics operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Eritrea (ELCE), which receive gifts from LCMS World Relief and Human Care donors. The clinics also provide opportunities for spiritual care. Support this project as the ELCL plans to reach 27,000 people this year.

Kenyan Orphan Support
Two to three million Kenyan children have lost both parents, often to the country's AIDS epidemic. Our churches, schools, and individual members have the opportunity to share Christ's mercy with these children in need. Just $40 per month provides one Kenyan orphan lodging, food, education, and health care. More than 150 children already benefit from this program. Help LCMS World Relief and Human Care support 100 more Kenyan orphans by July 2008.

Latvia Mercy Ministry
Needs are great in Latvia, but the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia is ready to respond with Christ’s mercy. Upon the request of the church, LCMS World Relief and Human Care has the opportunity to further develop its partner’s capacity for human care outreach. Help us equip Latvian church workers and laity with the guideance and tools for more mercy ministry in the post-Soviet country!

Life Ministries
As a division of LCMS World Relief and Human Care, Life Ministries is devoted to upholding the sanctity of human life, both in our church body and the culture at large. Life Ministries is actively involved in a variety of domestic and international programs to support and encourage life “in the image of God.” By supporting women and children through crisis pregnancy centers, providing educational materials and opportunities, reaching out to youth through a Christian chastity program, and working closely with allies such as National Lutherans For Life and the National Pro-life Religious Council, Life Ministries is carrying the banner that Life is sacred.

Mercy Medical Teams
Working with Lutherans around the world, Mercy Medical Teams bring medical care, supplies, and equipment to those in need. Your gift brings the Gospel and Christ’s mercy for body and soul to the poor and diseased, offering men, women, and children health and new hope worldwide.

Open Gate Daycare Center
Open Gate Daycare Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, feeds young children while offering Christian care and education to the children and their families. LCMS World Relief and Human Care depends completely upon your gifts to fund projects like Open Gate Fellowship.

Project 24 Orphan Rescue Centers
The dream of Rev. Walter Obare of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya, Project 24 has become the passion of six LCMS World Relief volunteers. As many as 8 million people in Kenya may be infected with aids. Their deaths leave children alone and destitute. A gift of $400 gives an orphan a place to call "home." Construction of a new rescue center in Kenya costs approximately $40,000. Give the gift of life to a Kenyan orphan now and for eternity!

Soldiers of the Cross
LCMS World Relief and Human Care works with Synod entities to identify cases of urgent need among all servants of the church. Soldiers of the Cross grants are typically (though not always) a single payment to help with an unusual burden, and have assisted a church secretary, daycare worker, custodian and professor’s spouse, in addition to pastors and teachers.

Veterans of the Cross
Some retired LCMS pastors and teachers live in poverty on as little as $200 per month. Give here to help pensioned pastors, teachers and their families receive at least the basics of food and medicine.
